We sailed about 35 miles from Hammond Bay to Presque Isle.
It is also a state park run facility that caters to transient boaters. It has
one restaurant, one country store, free biking and a couple of old lighthouses,
one since automated. We climbed both and enjoyed the spectacular views.
Mike, a
sailor we met at the marina who had the same make and model boat that we do, told
us that he had sailed the Carribean and, this area, with its white beaches and
crystal clear waters, can easily compete.
We docked at the marina one night and anchored the
next. We’re starting to get really comfortable
with anchoring and enjoying the solace and beauty of the anchorage sites. Of
course our dinghy helps bridge the gap between blissful isolation and utter
boredom quite a bit. We’re starting to get into a graceful rhythm taking “dinghy”
off the davits and into the water then the motor off the block and onto “dinghy”.
Jeff hasn’t fallen backwards into the water with motor in hand yet! We’re
holding our breath!
