We had a glorious nine hour journey from South Haven to White Lake, MI, even though we motored the entire way as there was zero wind. The weather was in the high 70's with no humidity and very few flies (that's major... flies are the bane of every sailor's existence). We anchored at White Lake in the NW corner at Indian Bay. Very peaceful, idyllic location...
However, let's backtrack a moment or three to the anchoring part.
We had recently switched out our anchor line from 20 feet of chain and two hundred feet of nylon rode to two hundred feet of chain and 100 feet of nylon rode. To say the least, this will take some getting used to. We anchored and unanchored at least three times (felt like a hundred), much to the chagrin and consternation of our neighboring boaters. The darn thing is so heavy we don't even think the anchor was set but we stayed in place throughout the night just on the weight of the chain alone, (it also helped that there was no wind:). Needless to say, we "reviewed" our approach over a cocktail (after our "WTFR We" toast) and perused the ole' Chapman Boating & Seamanship Guide the next morning.
Wondrous journey to all,
Pam
