Apparently the French explorers were not feeling very
creative during the period where they named yet another harbor area Presque
Isle (“Almost an Island” in French). Maybe they were just getting really tired
of discovering and naming new lands.
I
mean come on, they couldn’t even figure out what type of geological formation
they were looking at! Then they go ahead
and admit to this for all eternity by dubbing two locations with this nebulous
distinction (Almost, but not quite, an Island?). Oh well, to the American ear,
Presque Isle pronounced “Presk eel” melodically just rolls off the tongue, what
else matters? Anyway, if you want a perfect anchorage site, Presque Isle No.2, off of the Erie Bay in PA is the place. It is a highly protected area, providing great holding and surrounded by lagoons, woods, seagulls and ducks.
A wondrous journey to all,
Pam
lol I was wondering - based on your itinerary I thought you were planning on sailing in circles - looks gorgeous :)
ReplyDeleteI can barely keep up with the itinerary when the locations have different names… wrong spelling, wrong state, wrong lake - OYE!
ReplyDeletethanks for the update.
