The Hudson River - Part Two - West Point Military Academy

While moseying down the Hudson just to the starboard of green buoy 34 we came upon a building that had "Beat Air Force" emblazened on its roof.

We had arrived at West Point. YIKES!!!! Are we too close? Will they see us as a threat? Will they shoot first and take names later?  Do we have the American flag flying?  Anyway we stayed port of green buoy 34 and no drama ensued. Whew!!!

What a beautiful setting, with the exception of the writing on the roof, you would never know you were looking at the revered military academy.
Depth in water level drops to 216 feet at about this point "World's End"
As we approached a round in the bend,  the depth dropped to 216 feet. This drop is called "World's end". The glaciers of the past carved deep and created this dramatic 175 foot drop in depth in the river. Westpoint chose to build at this location prior to the civil war so that when enemy ships were sunk they were well under water and out of the way of  U.S. ships.

And WHOOPS, I take back everything I just said about West Point not looking like a military academy. As we rounded the bend in the river, huh... you can't look much more military than this:

Jeff happy that we escaped West Point with "Grace" intact ;)

A wondrous journey to all,

Pam
